Our Story

The vision for Mamas Ktchn is to provide food to every community. We believe that every individual should have access to healthy, organic and plant-based food, we also believe that food, faith and family all go hand in hand. Food has the ability to bring people from all walks of life together, we've seen it before our very eyes, this gives us hope and we hope it encourages you to help us work towards a better future.

A little history

You may be wondering how Mamas Ktchn started. Well, Soul Food’s origin mostly is from Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama, a collation of states commonly referred to as the Deep South. During the Transatlantic Slave Trade, enslaved Africans were given meagre food rations that were low in quality and nutritional value. With these rations, enslaved people preserved African food traditions and adapted traditional recipes with the resources available. Over time, these recipes have evolved and became the Afro Caribbean Soul food dishes that many are familiar with today.

Meet the Founder

Hello there, my names Makeda and I am the founder of Mamas Ktchn, growing up I fell in love with food at a very young age, I found myself experimenting with different flavours and seasonings, and by the time I was 13, I could confidently cook for my entire family! Family and food go hand in hand, and they definitely have a special place in my heart. 13 years later I decided to follow my dreams and start my own business, so here we are.

Welcome to Mamas Ktchn!

Afro-Caribbean Vegan Food?

Why Vegan

As Christians, we believe that Gods original intention for man was to have a plant-based diet. Genesis 1:29 KJV Says “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.”

Being vegan for us is more than simply not eating or wearing products derived from animals, being vegan is a way of life, a life in which we eat from what the Earth has provided for us through its rich and natural resources and by doing so contributing to the preservation of our planet and everything within it, from the sea creatures to the birds and even the little rabbits.

Community Work

A wise African proverb says “it takes a community to bring up a child.” Our work extends far beyond just healthy food, we place massive importance on making sure the next generation of young people have the right opportunities to fulfil their full potential.

We are working on providing food for larger groups of homeless people by collaborating with charities that support such causes. No one should go without the basic necessities of life, which is food, shelter and love.

Young people are at the heart of Mamas Ktchn as so many are misled and lack positive influences to guide them along the way. We are building mentorship programmes to help young people in London and across the UK realise their dreams and regain their confidence. We will also be offering work experience at our pop-ups for those who are interested in creating their own flavours in the kitchen.

Triple R (Recycle, Reuse, Reduce)

With the world changing at a rapid pace and climate change on the rise like never before, we want to play our part in not only sustaining but rejuvenating this beautiful planet we live on. We pride ourselves on using eco-friendly material and produce, we also ensure that all our products can be recycled or are made from recycled material, reused (no single-use plastic) and that we reduce waste, by either putting the bits we do not want aside for composting or by giving it to our family dog, Lucas!

One of our main objectives is to educate people on the importance of recycling the things we use instead of throwing them away. Reusing that which we can, and limiting the use of plastic will make a difference, one plastic bottle at a time. We can practise the three R’s with our clothes, bags, bottles and please don’t forget let’s reduce the amount we waste!

We hope you share our sentiments for animals and for the environment, any questions? drop us an email.
