A little history

You may be wondering how Mamas Ktchn started. Well, Soul Food’s origin mostly is from Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama, a collation of states commonly referred to as the Deep South. During the Transatlantic Slave Trade, enslaved Africans were given meagre food rations that were low in quality and nutritional value. With these rations, enslaved people preserved African food traditions and adapted traditional recipes with the resources available. Over time, these recipes have evolved and became the Afro Caribbean Soul food dishes that many are familiar with today.

FOUNDER

Meet the Founder

Hello there, my names Makeda and I am the founder of Mamas Ktchn, growing up I fell in love with food at a very young age, I found myself experimenting with different flavours and seasonings, and by the time I was 13, I could confidently cook for my entire family! Family and food go hand in hand, and they definitely have a special place in my heart. 13 years later I decided to follow my dreams and start my own business, so here we are.

Welcome to Mamas Ktchn!

Afro-Caribbean Vegan Food?

Why Vegan

As Christians, we believe God’s original intention for humanity was a plant-based diet. Genesis 1:29 (KJV) says, “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.”

For us, being vegan is more than avoiding animal products; it’s a way of life. We nourish ourselves with the Earth’s abundant natural resources, contributing to the preservation of our planet and all its inhabitants—from sea creatures to birds and even little rabbits.

Community Work

An African proverb wisely states, “It takes a community to bring up a child.” Our mission extends beyond promoting healthy eating; we are dedicated to ensuring the next generation has the opportunities they need to reach their full potential.

We would like to work with charities to provide food for larger groups of homeless people, believing that everyone deserves the basic necessities of life: food, shelter, and love.

Young people are at the heart of Mamas Ktchn. Many are misled and lack positive influences, so we are developing mentorship programs to help youth in London and across the UK realize their dreams and regain confidence. We also offer work experience at our pop-ups for those interested in exploring their culinary creativity.

Triple R (Recycle, Reuse, Reduce)

In response to rapid environmental changes and the rise of climate change, we are committed to sustaining and rejuvenating our beautiful planet. We pride ourselves on using eco-friendly materials and produce, ensuring that all our products can be recycled or are made from recycled materials. We avoid single-use plastics and reduce waste through composting or by sharing with our family dog, Lucas!

Our primary objective is to educate people on the importance of recycling, reusing, and reducing waste. Small actions, like limiting plastic use and practicing the three R’s with our clothes, bags, and bottles, can make a significant difference. Let’s work together to reduce waste and protect our planet!

We hope you share our love for animals and the environment. Have questions? Drop us an email.
